Escape the crowds and discover one of the hidden archaeological treasures of the Sacred Valley on this unforgettable full-day adventure to Huchuy Qosqo, meaning “Little Cusco” in Quechua. Nestled on a mountainside overlooking the Urubamba Valley, this remarkable Inca archaeological site offers breathtaking panoramic views, fascinating architecture and an immersive hiking experience through the Peruvian Andes.

Believed to have been built during the reign of the Inca emperor Viracocha, Huchuy Qosqo served as an important royal estate and administrative center connected to the extensive Qhapaq Ñan (Inca Road System). Today, its well-preserved terraces, ceremonial structures and stone buildings provide visitors with a unique opportunity to explore one of the region’s lesser-known archaeological wonders.

This tour perfectly combines history, culture, nature and adventure, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking an authentic off-the-beaten-path experience near Cusco.

Itinerary

Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco.

Travel by tourist transportation toward Tambomachay (or Chinchero, depending on the selected route), where the hiking experience begins.

The trail crosses beautiful Andean landscapes featuring rolling hills, native grasslands, crystal-clear lagoons and traditional Quechua farming communities. Throughout the hike, enjoy magnificent views of snow-capped mountains and observe local wildlife, including alpacas, llamas and native bird species.

After several hours of scenic trekking, arrive at the impressive archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo.

Your professional guide will explain the site’s fascinating history, architectural features, agricultural terraces, ceremonial areas and its importance during the Inca Empire.

Take time to explore the ruins while enjoying spectacular panoramic views of the Sacred Valley and the surrounding mountains.

Following the guided visit, descend toward the village of Lamay, located in the Sacred Valley.

Enjoy a well-deserved lunch before boarding private transportation for the return journey to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon.
